The Institute of Latvian History is an academic unit of the University of Latvia, Faculty of Humanities. The mission of the institute is: 

  • to conduct research and increase knowledge based on an interdisciplinary approach in the field of history, archeology and ethnology,
  • to maintain high standards in the research of Latvian history, archaeology, bioarchaeology, dendrochronology, ethnology,
  • to cooperate in the creation of an educated and critically thinking society and to promote understanding of the formation processes of society, culture, and nation,
  • to maintain, supplement and ensure access to culturally and scientifically important archaeological and ethnographic collections.
