The Scientific Institute of Economics and Management is a structural unit of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Latvia, comprising the faculty’s leading researchers, researchers, and research assistants.
The aim of the institute is to promote theoretical and applied research in management and economics, ensure the high-quality training of young scientists, and involve students in scientific research in order to enhance the international competitiveness of Latvian enterprises.
The main task of the institute is to implement research directions and projects relevant to society in the fields of economics, management, demography, environmental governance, and related areas, thereby contributing to the international recognition of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences.
The main directions of the Institute's scientific activity include:
- innovations for enhancing the competitiveness of Latvian companies and industries under globalization,
- sustainable national development and quality of life,
- transformation, growth, governance, and legal frameworks of the national economy for sustainable development of the state and society,
- the impact of migration, unemployment, wages, and education on national development, gross domestic product, and productivity,
- applied research in computer science and IT, and their use in business management.
