Short biography

Elīna Grigore-Bāra is an assistant professor at the Department of Legal Theory and History, Faculty of Law, University of Latvia. She holds a doctoral degree in law (Dr. iur.) in legal theory and history, awarded for her doctoral thesis on compulsory alienation (expropriation) of immovable property for public purposes in Latvia. In addition to her academic work, she is a legal research counsel at the Supreme Court of the Republic of Latvia. Her research focuses on the history of Latvian law and concepts of legal philosophy, with particular emphasis on justice, freedom and property.

Research interests

History of Latvian law, origins and development of the judicial system in Latvia, compulsory alienation (expropriation) of immovable property for public purposes, property as a concept of legal philosophy, legal philosophy, justice, freedom, legal reasoning.
