Short biography

University of Latvia Rector Gundars Bērziņš is a UL professor and leading researcher, holder of a doctorate in management science (Dr. sc. admin.). Since 2000, he has had several academic and administrative offices at the University, including the position of the Dean at the Faculty of Business, Management and Economics (currently – the University of Latvia Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences) from 2016 until his election as the UL Rector in 2024. Bērziņš is a full member of the Latvian Academy of Sciences and has been the Chair of the Council of the internationally recognized chemical and pharmaceutical product developer and producer AS “Olainfarm” (at present – “Olpha”). He has served as a freelance advisor to the President of Latvia in the matters of state competitiveness and economic issues, as well as an expert at the Parliament of the Republic of Latvia – Saeima. He is currently the Chairman of The Productivity Board of Latvia, an advisory body to the Ministry of Economics.
