Research interests

Ramona Rupeika-Apoga’s research interests focus on digital finance, including FinTech, alternative finance, and the future of money — central bank digital currencies (CBDC), cryptocurrencies, and stablecoins. Her research examines SME finance, financial regulation and risks, and financial inclusion, as well as sustainable digital finance, with particular attention to green and blue FinTech in small, open, and emerging economies.

Short biography

Ramona Rupeika-Apoga is a professor of finance at the University of Latvia, where she serves as Head of the Department of Finance and Accounting and Director of the bachelor’s programme Accounting, Analysis and Audit. She is also an affiliate professor at the University of Malta and a visiting professor at the University of Lodz.

She has more than 20 years of academic and professional experience, including work in the banking sector, and is actively engaged in international academic and professional networks. Her collaborations span institutions across Europe, North America, Asia, and the Middle East.
