A new era of ICT in the education system

The growing use of ICT in educational settings has resulted in an expan-sion of pedagogical and scholastic possibilities. ICT's main function in an ESL classroom is to facilitate collaboration between instructors and their students. The study's main aims are to understand (i) how secondary school English teachers see the potential of ICT as a teaching tool, and (ii) how those teachers view the potential impact of ICT on their own professional futures. This study may be characterised as qualitative research since semi-structured interviews were utilised to explore educators' perspectives on ICT's potential as an educational instrument and its possible implications on educators' careers. Twenty-five English teachers from secondary schools throughout the United States were polled for this study. Based on these criteria, we selected eight lecturers from Tawau, seven lecturers from Alor Setar, six lecturers from Tuanku Jaafar, and four lecturers from Kuala Lumpur. Interviewees were selected on the basis of their experience in teaching for at least a year, their willingness to participate, and their proven ability to answer interview questions successfully. The findings of the research suggested that ICT might have far-reaching implications on educators in the future, especially with respect to educators' responsibilities, teaching methodologies, and assessment processes. It was also decided that in the future, teachers would act less as lecturers and more as facilitators or moderators, that students would increasingly use message boards on the Internet, and that written exams would be replaced by digital ones.
