Abstract
One-dimensional Rydberg atoms irradiated by short half-cycle pulse (HCP) were investigated by comparing classical, quantum-mechanical and semiclassical expressions. It was observed that the transition probabilities W n″n concide in both semiclassical and classical theories. It was also observed that the matrix element of n→n″ transition was reduced to the sum, after the application of two time delayed HCPs. The quantum mechanical transitions probabilities exhibited an interference phenomenon due to the different paths for the n→n″.
