Abstract

Crystal field calculations have been performed for the LaF 3:Eu3+ crystal. The complete |JMj〉 basis was used without any truncation; the energy levels obtained are given an assignment and compared, on one hand, with the experimental results, and, on the other hand, with the results of fully relativistic first-principles calculations for the same crystal.
