Abstract
The reflection and luminescence spectra of a sodium silicate glass in the region of fundamental absorption largely depend on the degree of leaching of the surface of the specimen under the action of atmospheric moisture or in the process of polishing. In the case of strong leaching of the surface, bands characteristic of vitreous SiO//2 are observed in the reflection spectra. In the case where leaching has been prevented by polishing in a silicone oil or by ion-exchange treatment in an NaNO//3 melt, only the bands with maxima at 7. 2 and 9. 0 ev and intrinsic luminescence at 3. 4 ev are observed in the reflection spectrum. 22 refs.
