Abstract
Experimental investigations have been carried out to study the influence of the transversal electric field on the free flame formation and the processes of field-induced heat- and mass- transfer in the field direction. In fact, the electric field initiates an intensive drift motion of the ions of hydrocarbon radicals in the field direction. As a result of the energy exchange between the ions and neutrals, a field-forced transfer of the flame compounds in the field direction can be obtained. The influence of the field effect on flame parameters is followed by a radial flame expansion toward the negatively biased electrode with a profound field effect on the axial and radial distribution of the flame temperature and composition. The results demonstrate that the field-forced quenching of the premixed flame significantly reduces emission levels of NO x. The enhanced field effect on the processes of the interrelated heat- and mass- transfer from the flame is discussed.
