Abstract
A flow-rate control for a conducting liquid is examined when the controlled section takes the form of sudden expansions or contractions; control is provided by a steady magnetic field. A universal relationship is presented for the flow rate as a function of the induction; it is shown by experiment that the method is efficient, and recommendations are made for choosing some of the optimal relationships.
