Abstract

An intracavity matrix addressed PLZT (9/65/35) space-time retardation array characterized by optical threshold energy up to 11 J/cm2 applicable for angular deflection of laser radiation is developed. The capabilities of a 900 bit array ensuring 30 × 30 elements of 0.45 × 0.45 mm clear aperture are demonstrated with a YAG:Nd laser that provides 10 μs angular deflection time as well as high beam quality being limited only by the diffraction. Options of immediate applications include the laser pointing and laser location. Optical computing and PLZT/active media optics offer long term prospects.
