Abstract

In this study the series of Cr3+-doped Y3Ga5O12 (YGG) and Gd3Sc2Ga3O12 (GSGG) garnets were investigated. Te garnet samples doped with a different amount of Cr3+ were synthesized using an aqueous sol-gel combustion synthesis method. Te phase purity and morphology of the obtained garnets were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Te chemical composition of differently Cr3+-doped garnet structure compounds was analysed and compared with the nominal one. Te content of elements in all samples was determined by inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) afer dissolving these garnets in diluted nitric acid and by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDX) coupled with SEM. Te empirical formula were calculated for both garnet series and compared with the theoretical formula.
