Abstract

The invention relates to direct current arc furnaces.

A direct current arc furnace comprises a lined base, a central cathode in the furnace vault and one or more anodes built into the base, with at least one anode mounted in the base with a spatial inclination such that the centre of the upper end of the electrode, which is in the furnace base and contacts the melt, is offset from the vertical axis of the bath by a distance R1 = 70 – 80 % of the inner radius R2 of the bath base and the electrode axis is located in the tangent plane of a vertical cylindrical surface at an angle β to the vertical in the range from 30° to 70°. In a furnace having three or more anodes, two of them may be mounted with a spatial inclination to ensure rotation in different directions, and the device is designed to direct the arc current through one inclined anode and the remaining vertical anodes.
