Abstract
A previous investigation theoretically predicted and experimentally studied the instability of the symmetrical shape of a drop of magnetic fluid (MF) in a plane layer in the presence of a transverse field. The findings were used to interpret the mechanism of structure formation in magnetic fluids. Here, we use this approach to theoretically examine the stability of a MH film in a circular capillary tube in regard to flexural deformations. We discuss the known differences from the behavior of a film in a plane layer, and we interpret several experimental results.
