Abstract

It has been shown that the circular form of a drop of magnetic liquid (ML) compressed into a flat layer becomes unstable with respect to elliptic perturbations when a sufficiently strong field is applied transverse to the layer. Here authors report results obtained by numerical experiment. The first section gives the initial equations on the dynamics of a trapped drop together with the numerical method. The algorithm is given in the second section. The third section gives results from some test experiments, and the fourth gives results from numerical experiments designed to simulate the MHD instability of an ML drop.
