On the chaotic solutions of relaxation equations of electric polarization

Abstract

The properties of solutions of electric polarization relaxation equations of poorly conducting suspensions of anisotropic particles have been studied. These solutions describe a number of phenomena occuring in magnetic colloids and emulsions which can be observed experimentally. The existence of chaotic solutions in a certain range of physical parameters has been discovered, and the bifurcation values of their origin are given. Characteristic phase pictures of the chaotic solutions have been shown. The presence of determined chaos in the above system has been confirmed by the results of calculation of the largest Lyapunov exponent of the autocorrelation functions of the dynamic variables, and the Fourier spectrum. Apart from the chaotic solutions attention has been paid to the existence of regimes of unidirected rotation of particles, and the necessity of studies of cooperative properties of the suspension in the range of existence of the determined chaos has been mentioned.
