The invention relates to environmental biotechnology, namely, bioremediation and wastewater treatment. The proposed filter for the treatment of gray domestic wastewater includes a module in which several fixed filtering layers of organic filtering material are located one above the other, moreover, the first (4-1) and last (4-2) layers are made of carbonate gravel, the second layer (5), which follows the first layer (4-1), is made of quartz sand, the second layer (5) is followed by a reservoir (6) for the accumulation of wastewater, followed by a fourth layer (7), which is made of crushed black peat; where the fourth layer (7) is followed by a fifth layer (8) - from peat activated carbon. The proposed method for treating gray domestic wastewater using the aforementioned filter includes filtration of wastewater through a layer of carbonate gravel (4a) and a layer of quartz sand (5), collection of wastewater in a reservoir (6) and further sequential filtration of wastewater through a layer of crushed black peat (7), a layer of peat activated carbon (8) and a layer of carbonate gravel (4-2).
