N2 - This chapter discusses the Baltic (Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian) societies in the context of postcolonial criticism. It provides insight into the historical experience of the Baltic countries that created the preconditions of their colonial difference, discusses representations of past and present experiences in literature and culture, analyses scholarly contexts for Baltic and East-Central European postcolonialism, and stresses the importance of the decolonial option as a critical tool for the self-understanding of the Baltic peoples.
