Abstract

Blood serum high sensitivity C-reactive protein (hsCRP), neopterin and phospholipid concentrations have been examined in 30 healthy individuals and 84 patients with coronary heart disease, verified by coronary angiography (43 patients with one-artery disease, 24 - with two- and three-artery disease, 17 patients with restenosis). Higher serum concentrations of hsCRP and neopterin together with lower phospholipid concentrations were observed in patients with coronary heart disease. In the group of patients with restenosis the changes of concentrations were more expressed than in the group of patients with one-artery disease. Usually the frequency and intensity of serum neopterin elevations concurred with the increase hsCRP concentrations. The results in literature, results of this study as well as results of our previous investigations suggest that the decrease of serum total phospholipids concentrations in coronary heart disease may depend on both, an impaired phosphatidylcholine biosynthesis and an increased phosphathidylcholine phagocytosis mediated by CRP.
