Abstract

The paper analyzes hardened zone thickness of a splined shaft after scanning induction heating with a two-turn inductor. The analysis is done by means of 3D simulation. While it is demonstrated that quick 2D axial-symmetric approximation could give reasonable estimations for gear hardening, the wider splines benefit from 3D simulation. Hardening profile of the splined shaft is analyzed subject of frequency and power change.
