Social dialogue and the new world of work: The case of the Baltic states

The Baltic States are interesting for a study of the changes in the world of work and the associated challenges for social dialogue due to their strong economic convergence towards old EU member states, rapid emergence of new forms of work like platform work and success in adopting new technologies like ICT solutions. This chapter analyses the role social dialogue has and can play in meeting the related challenges in order to achieve a successful performance in a broader set of social indicators including decreasing some of the labour market inequalities. The major challenge hereby in the Baltic States is the low representativeness of social partners inhibiting the social dialogue. The chapter takes closer look at the platform work in Estonia and the use of non-standard employment contracts in Latvia.
