Abstract

Absorption and emission spectra of Sm3+ and Eu3+ co-doped lithium borate glass of the following composition: xSm2O3 + (100 - x)[0.84H3BO3 + 0.15Li2O + 0.01Eu2O3], where x = 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, 0.5, 0.6 and 0.7 mol%, have been reported. The concentration of Sm3+ was varied keeping the Eu3+ concentration fixed at 0.01 mol%. Optical absorption and emission spectra have been measured in the spectral range from 350 to 2400 nm. The oscillator strength, Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters, branching ratios and radiative transition probabilities were calculated. The obtained results are discussed and compared with other literature data for Eu3+ in various compounds.
