Abstract
IR spectra of yellow arsenic have been studied in the 700-30 cm-1 range within the 87-300 K temperature interval. A reversible phase transition has been observed at 223 K. Yellow arsenic is shown to exist in the form of molecular crystals. A comparison of the spectra of the higher- temperature phase of As4 with those of the α-phosphorus leads to the suggestion that given phase of arsenic forms plastic crystals with a cubic lattice.
