Abstract

In previous papers the authors concluded that an air bubble in a transversely magnetized plane layer of magnetic fluid (MF) would have the same instability spectrum as a drop of MF in air in similar conditions. The present paper gives the results of experiments confirming this conclusion and also presents new results relating to magnetostatic instabilities in horizontal plane layers, similar to the comblike instability of an MF in a vertical gap.
