N2 - The Step Pyramid complex of Djoser in Saqqara visible today is a reconstruction performed by the main excavator, a French architect Jean-Philippe Lauer, who reconstructed key portions of the complex in the area of 15 ha. However, reconstructed walls, columns and other structures substantially differ in contrast from the Step pyramid itself, its architecture and system of underground tunnels. The existing structure is also not indicating the necessity of numerous attempts to rebuild the pyramid and most likely represents the visual image of the pyramid complex during the New Kingdom. Therefore it is necessary to highlight possible initial look and signification of the Step Pyramid complex. Our research is based on numerous observations and studies, as well as analysis of literature and topographical material available, including analysis of quality of stone and binding material used in the construction of the pyramid and Dry Moat structure. Our study denotes that this complex most likely was built as one of the central sacral places during the changes in the religious concepts when the cult of Ra becomes predominant and has a significant influence on the cult of the dead of Osiris. The Step Pyramid could be a conceptual model of the creation myth as a Primordial Hill. Symbolically, the Step Pyramid complex of Djoser at Saqqara necropolis is an initial element, subordinating the surrounding landscape, enclosed by the Dry Moat structure.
