Traditional culture as a source of inspiration for creating craft products in general education

Research output: Contribution to conferenceAbstractpeer-review

Abstract

Cultural heritage is one of the sources of inspiration for creating new products in crafts, which can be meaningfully used in the general education. The aim of this study is to find out the experience of prospective teachers in using traditional culture as a source of inspiration in the design and technology teaching process. Using the questionnaire method, both qualitative and quantitative approaches, it was studied how prospective teachers (N=31) use traditional culture in the teaching process. Respondents use signs of their native culture the most, mainly both digitally and in printed works. In their work, students focus on diverse aspects of artifacts: color, material, technique, shape. As a result of the study, it is necessary to develop methodological tools for the use of traditional culture in order to more fully use its pedagogical potential in design and technology.
