Kopsavilkums
MnO–SiO2–TiO2 fluxes of known compositions have been applied to manufacture submerged arc welding of EH550 offshore engineering steel. It has been found that the volume fraction of acicular ferrite (AF) decreases slightly from 60 to 52 pct with an increase in TiO2. Concurrently, morphologies of AFs transform from typical bulky to slender shape, resulting in a striking increase in aspect ratio from 5.62 to 8.01, boding well toward enhanced fracture toughness for the weld metal.
