title = "Evolution of organic matter studied on the expose facility onboard ISS",
abstract = "The Organics experiment was integrated in fall 2008 into the multi-user facility EXPOSE-R that contains experiments dedicated to Astrobiology. EXPOSE-R will be mounted on the International Space Station ISS in December 2008. On the EXPOSE-R facility biological and organic experiments will be exposed for a long duration and will at least remain one year onboard the ISS before they are returned to Earth. The radiation dose that is collected by the samples during flight exceeds the limits of simulations in the laboratory and the results will greatly enhance our knowledge on the evolution of organic material in space environments. A testflight investigation on Biopan V was completed successfully in 2005. The Organics experiment on EXPOSE-R will monitor the chemical evolution, survival, destruction and chemical modification of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and fullerenes in space environment.",
