Introduction: In search of truth

The modern world has forgotten about the importance of truth. Instead, we find a rush to commit to ill thought out causes and to virtue signalling. Social media has become the source of information about the world, none of which is subjected to any critical scrutiny about its veracity. Traditional media no longer sees its task to present news and information objectively, but to entertain and hence the distinction between fact and fiction is blurred. In this introduction, drawing on Augustine and Aquinas, we argue that we need to regain transcendent conception of truth which can anchor our knowledge claims. This can only be possible if we have a genuine love of truth and are committed to its pursuit. Since we accept the view, held by both Augustine and Aquinas that God is truth, the pursuit of truth will eventually lead us to God.
