Latvijas eiroatlantiskā integrācija 20. gadsimta 90. gadu pirmajā pusē

The article reflects the first attempts of Latvia's foreign policy to form the foreign policy of the renewed state by initiating the Euro-Atlantic integration process in the first half of the 1990s. The trend towards integration into NATO and the European Union strengthened during this time, becoming an official foreign policy goal by 1995. The article shows the path to this foreign policy concept in the context of the development of Latvia's domestic political processes, reflecting the actions of the president, parliament, government, and foreign ministers. The article analyses the country's international cooperation in the Euro-Atlantic integration process, the policy of the USA towards the Baltic States, and common issues with Lithuania and Estonia. The history of Latvia during the inter-war period, as well as Russia's foreign policy and domestic political instability, were of great importance for this geopolitical choice.
