Kopsavilkums
The subdialects spoken in Lower Kurzeme have often been in the focus of attention not only of Latvian and Baltic linguists and language enthusiasts. A descriptive overview of the data of these subdialects and their research in Latvian linguistics from its beginnings until 2004 was provided by Brigita Bušmane in her article “Lejaskurzemes izlokšņu dotumi un pētī-jumi latviešu valodniecībā”. However, as 16 years have passed since that publication, new studies have been conducted and new data have been found in different fields of linguistics: in phonetics, morphology, vocabulary, syntax, and onomastics. In this paper, the main attention is paid to some general studies in dialectal phonetics and vocabulary, e.g. “The Atlas of the Latvian Dialects. Phonetics”. Some other publications that have appeared during the last 16 years, are also reviewed: e.g. the dictionary of the Nīca subdialect compiled by Bušmane; the monograph by Daiga Straupeniece about the variety of the Latvian language spoken in Lithuania (namely in Būtiņģe and Sventāja), as well as some compilations of subdialectal texts of Lower Kurzeme. The supplement of this paper contains a full bibliography on the topic of Lower Kurzeme subdialects from 2004 to 2019.
