title = "Mūzika ir rokās. Metonīmija latvie{\v s}u mūzikas almanahos “Latvie{\v s}u mūzika” un “Latvju mūzika” 20. gadsimta 70. gadu laidienos",
abstract = "The main goal of this paper is to acquire a notion about the significance of the body, specifically hand metonymies in the verbalisation of musical experience in two Latvian music almanacks, Latvju mūzika (Latvian Music magazine) and Latvie{\v s}u mūzika (Latvian Music). Metonymy examples are retrieved from two data sets of the two Latvian music yearbooks and examined with content analysis and corpus linguistics tools. The research question: what are the functions of hand metonymies in the music descriptions of two Latvian music almanacks? This type of metonymy in musical descriptions typically is part of the conceptual mapping part for the whole. The usage of metonymy in descriptions of music/musicians is primarily dependent on the text genre. That explains why the hand metonymies appear disproportionately when comparing the two corpora. Hand metonymies appear specifically in concert reviews and can contain an evaluative function (often positive) for the musical piece or performance. The body metonymies in music descriptions can be interpreted with conclusions about the significance of figurative language in the gesture language of musicians.",
